Amalfi Coast Yacht Charter — Season & Events Guide
The Amalfi Coast — Positano, Amalfi, Ravello — and Capri together form the most concentrated lifestyle cruising ground in Italy. Season runs late April to mid-October. Naples airport (and tender from Sorrento) is the main entry; helicopter to Capri or Positano in 25 minutes. The Tyrrhenian summer is largely settled, but afternoon thermals and August thunderstorms shape anchoring choice along the rocky coast.

Charter recommendations
Best base marinas
Marina di Stabia (40m+, jet-met from Naples in 25 min); Marina d'Arechi (Salerno) for southern entry; Capri Marina Grande for tender-in only — no superyacht overnight berthing.
Recommended yacht size
35–50m motor yacht is ideal. Larger yachts must anchor and tender — Marina Grande Capri limits overnight to 50m, and even then with constraints.
Itinerary template (7 nights)
Naples / Marina di Stabia → Capri (2 nights, anchored Marina Piccola) → Positano → Nerano → Amalfi → Ravello (excursion) → Li Galli → back via Sorrento.
Avoid
Mooring overnight in Capri's Marina Grande in August — congested, noisy, expensive. Anchor in Marina Piccola or off Li Galli instead.
Pair with
Aeolian Islands (Stromboli, Panarea) as a 5-day southern extension. Sardinia's Costa Smeralda as a western 2-day passage.
Frequently asked questions
- When is the best month to charter the Amalfi Coast?
- June and September offer the best combination of weather and space. July and August are peak — book 9–12 months ahead.
- Where should I berth on the Amalfi Coast?
- Most charters base out of Marina di Stabia (Naples side) and tender into Capri and Positano. There is no full superyacht berthing on the Amalfi Coast itself.
- Is the Ravello Festival worth structuring a charter around?
- Yes — concerts in the Villa Rufolo gardens are among the most atmospheric music events in Europe. Helicopter from Naples or tender from Amalfi.
- How does the Amalfi Coast compare to the French Riviera in summer?
- More scenic, more compact, less event-driven, more Italian. Less berthing capacity for superyachts — most cruising is anchor-and-tender.
