# The Best Time to Charter a Yacht — A Region-by-Region Calendar

The single question every first-time client asks us is the same: **when is the best time to charter a yacht?** The honest answer is that there is no universal best — only the best week for your destination, your tolerance for crowds, and your budget. This guide breaks the global yacht-charter calendar down the way our captains plan a season: by weather windows.

Mediterranean — May to October

The Mediterranean luxury yacht charter season runs from May through October. Each month delivers a different experience:

- **May & early June**: 22–26°C sea temperature, light winds, empty anchorages. The smartest moment to charter a yacht in Croatia, Greece or the French Riviera if you want photographs without other yachts in them. - **July–August**: peak heat (28–32°C), peak crowds, peak prices. Most yachts hold 7-night Saturday-to-Saturday charters and pricing is often 25–40% higher than June or September. - **September**: the sweet spot. Sea temperatures are at their warmest, the meltemi has eased in the Aegean, and the social season at beach clubs like Nammos, Scorpios and Nikki Beach is still in full swing. - **October**: shoulder pricing returns, but expect the first autumn storms in the western Med.

Caribbean — November to April

A Caribbean yacht charter — whether a BVI catamaran charter or a St Barths superyacht — runs through the dry trade-wind season. **December through April** delivers steady 15–20 knot easterlies, 26–28°C water and minimal rain. **Christmas and New Year week** is the most prestigious — and most expensive — week of the entire global charter calendar. Yacht charter cost during that single week can double versus February or March.

Hurricane season runs June through November. Most yachts reposition to the Mediterranean by late May.

Indian Ocean & Asia-Pacific — November to April

If you want to charter a yacht in the Maldives, Seychelles or Thailand, target the same November–April window. The best time to charter a yacht in the Maldives is **late January to mid-April**: minimal rain, calm seas, and 28°C+ water year-round. What our concierge recommends

If you can move dates: book Mediterranean charters for the last week of June or first week of September, and Caribbean charters for the last two weeks of January or first three weeks of March. You will save 20–35% on the equivalent yacht and avoid the peak-week congestion at the marquee beach clubs and marinas.
